“Surrounded by People but still Alone” is harsh but the truth of mankind. Why is this that dating apps are gaining so much popularity and their downloads are increasing day by day? People are indeed moving to live alone either due to work or due to studies. Families are becoming nuclear.
There was a time when people became addicted to alcohol to overcome their loneliness but that addiction can be left. But what about this new addiction to online dating?

What are the reasons that people are becoming so addicted to these online dating apps?

Multiple Choices- Remember when we have only Doordarshan we even used to watch Krishi Darshan but as time passes we have multiple channels to watch. The same is true in the case of online dating apps. Here we get multiple choices and we can connect with people from all over the world who have the same tastes and choices as we have.

Fake Persona- In real life no matter how the person but on these sites, people can fake their personality as much as they want as there is no one to judge them.

No Accountability- Earlier we used to meet people usually through someone and we had to behave accordingly to the person involved in a relationship and have some sort of pressure on how that person would think. But on these online sites, there is no need for any third person. If you like someone like them it's okay else keep swiping.

Boon for loners- People are already unsatisfied with their jobs and daily arguments with their bosses and other life issues. So people who stay away from their homes and live alone in a multistory building have a God’s gift. After returning from the office when sitting idle they usually search for someone with whom they can connect and the best part is that millions of people do the same thing at night.

Sort of Arranged marriage- Since the pandemic things have gone online. Even marriages are being done online. Earlier we used to ask people or search for bride or groom through newspapers but then came sahdii.com and other matrimonial sites and with the pandemic came these online apps.

negatives:-

Decision paralysis- While buying something online we check for reviews then how can we be sure that someone we find randomly online is a perfect partner for us? Out of a population of 8 billion where you can daily interact with new people, partner selection is a difficult job.

Transactional- Some people just come to these apps and sites just for fun, saying that having a conversation is fine but to trust someone randomly met online and spend the rest of their life with them is not possible.

Low self-esteem- Though there are 8 billion people in the world and everyone will find the right partner for them but still when you search for partners online, sometimes you may still get rejected and this can sometimes lead to lower self-esteem of people. The person starts doubting himself.
