“Papa mobile de dijiye game khlena hai” (Dad please give me the mobile I want to play a game on the mobile). I am sure every late 90s and early 20s kid used to say this to their parents. But who knows that the games we play on our parent’s mobile can cause a disruption in the gaming industry.

Fast Forward to 2020 when the whole world was suffering Who knows the time we spend on mobile phones or computers for playing games as a hobby can be a career option for many. Yes, now gaming is not just a hobby but a profession a career option for many. Unlike other outdoor sports online gaming is going to be the future for many of us. According to Mr Mukesh Ambani, “ Online gaming will be bigger than Music, movies & TV shows put together”.

During the Pandemic the most popular game Ludo King was on the top list of free downloads and it’s revenue was $20 million and its daily active user was 5 crore. We can think of the revenue of the gaming industry in the context that the revenue of “Avengers End Game” was $850 million. In contrast, the revenue for “Call of duty-modern warfare” was $1.9 billion. The gaming industry is 3x bigger than the film industry.

The total worth of the gaming industry is about $198 billion of which India contributes only 1% whereas China and the US contribute 22% & 20% respectively. How big is the gaming industry we can see from the fact that:- in the year 2022 India alone generated $2.8 billion and is expected to generate $5 billion by the year 2025 at a CAGR of 28–30%. The year-on-year growth of the gaming industry is 27%. For 2022–23, the revenue was $23.56 billion whereas for 2027–32, it is forecasted to be $32.98 billion.

But out of every new disruption also comes new opportunities and new career options. What if you are not a pro player or don't have an interest in playing games you still have an opportunity to earn from the gaming industry.

Here are some options from which you can make a career and earn in the gaming industry:-

Front End- If you have an interest in designing, editing or animation. You can design or create animation for the games.

Commercial Artist- If you think you are creative then you can develop the art as per the requirement of the game

Back End- The latest requirement in any field is data science and data analysis. You can analyze the pattern of players like how much time players are taking in completing a single level and you can easily design the next level or can manage the difficulty of the game.

But as every coin has two faces same is true with the gaming industry. It also has a dark side.

It is true that the gaming industry can make your career but what if it harms you or even worse ruins your life?

There are many online games that involve gambling to name a few Dream 11, winzo and now you can even play bet on Ludo. If you win it’s good but what if you start losing? and like gambling just to recover money people play more. So before installing any app, you need to ask three questions:-

1. Does the game involve money?
2. Do you lose because of choice?
3. Are you improving in that game with the time or not?

Conclusion- Gaming is the future but we should be careful. We should try to take advantage of this opportunity we can develop many games or solve the issues in the current games from the backend.
